These Terms govern your use of the Plates mobile application and related services ("Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Plates. Users under the legal age of majority must use the Service with parental or guardian supervision.
Plates provides calorie estimation and nutrition tracking for informational purposes only. It does not provide medical, nutritional, or professional health advice. You should consult a qualified healthcare provider before making any changes to your diet or lifestyle. Use of the Service is at your own risk.
You are responsible for your account credentials. You may not use the Service for illegal, harmful, abusive, or disruptive activities. Reverse engineering or interfering with the Service's functionality is prohibited.
Plates uses third-party AI services to process meal photos, voice recordings, text, and related content to generate AI-powered calorie estimations: Google Gemini models (accessed through OpenRouter) for meal photos, and, for voice logging, a Whisper speech-to-text model hosted by DeepInfra followed by OpenAI GPT models (accessed through OpenRouter, which may route requests to OpenAI or Microsoft Azure). Data you submit may be shared with these providers (OpenRouter, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, and DeepInfra) solely to provide these features, as described in our Privacy Policy. AI outputs may be inaccurate and must not be considered professional advice.
The Service may also use third-party infrastructure such as Apple system services.
Your data may be used to operate and improve the Service, maintain functionality, and provide basic marketing communications related to Plates (e.g., updates or new features). We do not sell your personal data.
Logging your meals — by photo, voice, food search, or barcode — editing them, and viewing your daily calorie and nutrition totals are free and do not require a subscription. AI analysis of photos and voice recordings is available within a daily allowance per device, which photo and voice analyses share. Food search and barcode logging do not use this allowance, and Plates Plus does not increase it.
Plates Plus is an optional paid subscription; you do not need it to log meals, edit them, or view your daily totals. Its price and billing period are shown in the app before you purchase, in your local currency. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
Plus subscriptions renew automatically. Your subscription renews unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renew in your device's account settings after purchase.
If you are offered a free trial, its length and the price that applies after it are shown before you confirm. Unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription renews automatically as a paid subscription when the trial ends. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
Purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Refunds are governed by Apple's policies, and refund requests are made through Apple. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund a period already paid for.
Prices may change. We will give notice in the app before a price change takes effect for your subscription, and a price increase does not take effect for you without the consent required by the app store.
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. International users agree to comply with local laws applicable to their use of the Service.
We may modify or discontinue the Service at any time. Updates to these Terms may occur periodically. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of updated Terms. You may stop using Plates at any time.
